Alcohol a factor in crash involving police motorcycle

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Amarillo Police are investigating an afternoon crash that sent an officer driving a motocycle to a local hospital.

According to officials, a 1998 Mercury Mourtaineer driven by 24-year-old Jenna Blake failed to control her speed and struck a 2007 Chevrolet Impala driven by 24-year-old Brandon David Lee. It happened in the 5700 block of the West I-40 frontage road just before 2:30 Wednesday afternoon.

Police said Lee was following too closely a 2012 Harley Davidson Police Motorcycle. The motorcycle was driven by Cpl. Tony Merryman, Cpl. Merryman was thrown from the motorcycle, police added.

Cpl. Merryman was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatrning injuries.

Lee was arrested for Intoxicated Assault. Police said he is suspected of being under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Neither Lee or Blake were injured in this crash.
