AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Holiday shopping all weekend long will bring all kinds of people out and about. That also means you'll probably see more patrol officers out as well.

Every year, the Amarillo Police Department adds additional officers around holiday time to patrol high traffic areas, including parking lots of shopping malls and strip malls.  Westgate Mall even hires extra security for their parking lot watch tower to help keep an eye out for would-be burglars.

We always want to remind everyone to do everything you can to hide that stuff in the trunk and make it so that no one has access to your trunk," said Sgt. Brent Barbee with APD Crime Prevention Unit. "Don't leave any personal property in the car whatsoever. Anything that's there can be seen and taken very easily."

Barbee also said the police need help from everybody this holiday season -- be alert, watch for any suspicious activity, and report anything unusual.
