Gray County school takes safety measures during manhunt

GRAY COUNTY, TEXAS -- A man is now in custody after he led police on a chase after allegedly stealing a vehicle Wednesday morning. .

According to Lt. Terry Cox with the Gray County Sheriff's Office, James Dean Lee, 31, of Borger, stole a Ford F-350 from a Shamrock hotel Wednesday morning. Authorities were notified just before 8:00 a.m. The vehicle's computer was able to track the vehicle until signal was lost.

A deputy stationed in McLean spotted the vehicle and attempted to stop it. The man then led police on a chase and then a foot chase.

Lt. Cox said the man hid out in some of the canyons. He was eventually captured and was booked into the Gray County Jail after a five hour search. He walked out of the canyon and surrendered himself, officials said.

Texas Department of Public Safety assisted with the search using its helicopter. Additionally, K-9 units were dispatched along with horsed from TDJC Jordan Unit.

Lefors ISD took "safety measures" in order to protect its students, Kelley Porter, Lefors ISD Principal told Pronews 7. She said all outside doors were locked.

Lee was booked into the Gray County Jail for evading arrest in a motor vehicle.
