Female mail thieves sought in Amarillo

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Police are investigating more than 100 incidents of mail theft and attempting to locate three females who are believed to be involved.

Amarillo Police said the mail thefts happened during the last couple of weeks. The mail is being stolen out of residential mailboxes mainly in the 79119 zip code, police said.

Police said it is believed there are three females involved in the majority of the thefts. They may be driving a rented, white Toyota Corolla. The car was rented out of Gainesville, Texas.

Additionally, the women have been renting rooms with information obtained from the stolen mail, police said. The hotels are along Interstate 40.

It is recommended that mail be removed from mailboxes as soon as possible. If anyone is seen prowling neighborhoods or looking into neighbor's mailboxes, the police should be called immediately.
