Stolen pickup found because suspicious activity reported

AMARILLO. TEXAS -- Thanks to suspicious activity reported, three people were arrested and a stolen vehicle was uncovered.

Amarillo Police said officers working an off-duty assignment as security guards at Best Buy were alerted by a citizen that people were looking into cars in the parking lot. Upon further investigation, the officers found a gray 2007 Chevrolet dual-wheel pickup with Mississippi license plates on the parking lot.

The officers recognized it as a pickup that was stolen from an Amarillo motel parking lot on Dec. 8. According to a release, the officers made contact with two females inside the pickup.

Krista Chantell Hicks, 30, who was in the front seat, was arrested for unathorized use of a motor vehicle. Additionally, she was wanted on a warrant out of Potter County for bond forfeiture on an original charge of credit or debit card abuse.

21-year-old BreAnna Ashleigh Grantham, who was in the backseat, was also arrested for disorderly conduct by profane and abusive language. Officers said she created a disturbance in public by yelling obscenities while the officers were trying to detain her.

A third person who had been in the pickup was found in the store, police said. Wesley Woodrow Prestridge, 32, was located inside the store with three bottles of cologne taken from a nearby store. He was arrested for theft over $50.

When officers searched the pickup, the located a 9mm handgun that was also in the vehicle when it was stolen. The pickup has since been returned.

Officers said the recovery of the pickup and firearm was because an observant person in the parking lot. Residents are reminded to be alert and suspicious during their holiday shopping.
