The upper-level storm system is now just south of Claude and is moving east-northeast at 35 mph.
The snow continues to "pinwheel" into the central and southwestern Texas Panhandle behind the departing low. Rain and t-storms are ongoing ahead of the storm system according to Adobe Walls LIVE MAX Radar.
The rain will mix-with, then change-over to snow in the eastern TX and OK Panhandle later this evening. Snowfall totals of 6-9 inches have already been reported in Texline and Clayton with blizzard conditions ongoing there. The heaviest snowfall (6-12 inches with possibly upwards of 18 inches) is still expected in this part of the High Plains. Snow from 2-4 inches is still expected in Amarillo and Canyon with significant blowing and drifting of the snow region-wide. Drifts from 2-4 feet are likely in the NW TX, OK Panhandle and NE NM with drifts to 1-2 feet possible for the rest of the region by sunrise Tuesday.
Travel is practically impossible over the northwest portions of the High Plains with numerous roads closed.
Travel conditions will worsen from west to east as the storm system moves away tonight.
