AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Police are searching for a man who is suspected of attempting to rob a Toot-N-Totum convenience store Tuesday evening.

It was just before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday when police were dispatched to the Toot-N-Toum in the 2400 block of South Western. The clerk told police a man entered the store and tried to buy a cigar. When she opened the cash register, the man reached over the counter and attempted to grab money from the register, police said.

The clerk quickly slammed the cash register drawer with the man's fingers still inside, police said.

After removing his hand from the register, police said he then pulled a "box" knife from his pocket and threatened the clerk.

He left the store without any money.

Police describe the man was being in his late 30s, six feet tall, skinny, with short hear and wearing a brown Carhart jacket with matching overalls.
