AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A press conference was held this afternoon with the focus on preventing drunk drivers during New Year's weekend, and officials plan on doing so by have a "No Refusal" policy.
Starting Friday at 6 p.m. and running until 6 a.m. on Monday if an officer pulls you over on suspicion of DWI you will be asked to provide a breath sample, and if you refuse, a warrant for a blood sample will be requested.
"We understand people are going to celebrate over new year’s, we don't want to discourage people from celebrating, but we want them to be responsible, plan ahead in how they're going to do so. If they're going to be drinking they don't need to be driving, because the old stand-by of refusing to provide a breath sample isn't going to get you out of a DWI," said Potter County Attorney, Scott Brumley.
Brumley also said if you do plan to drink to have a designated driver, stay where you are or have an alternative way to get home.
