AMARILLO, TEXAS -- An Amarillo man is in custody after police said a homeowner scared him away from her home Wednesday afternoon.

It began just before 2:00 p.m. Wednesday when police were dispatched to a home in the 6200 block of Landon Road. A female homeowner told police a man rang her doorbell but she didn't answer because she didn't recognize him.

The man, according to police, then got into a pickup and drove down the street. Police then said the pickup was seen driving back by the residence.

Just a few minutes later, police said the homeowner heard someone trying to break into the back door. The suspect broke a window but the homeowner started screaming. That caused the suspect to immediately leave.

The homeowner and two unidentified children then ran to a neighbors house to call police.

As for the suspect, police said he struck a fence as he was attempting to get away.

Within the hour, police stopped a matching pickup. Inside was Calip Farmer, 52, pf Amarillo. He was positively identified and booked into the Randall County Jail on a charge of Burglary.
