The U.S. Air Force has announced a new round of personnel cuts and Cannon Air Force Base is affected.
4500 positions were announced for elimination Wednesday as a continuation of its FY12 Civilian Workforce Restructure.
At Cannon Air Force Base, 53 jobs are being cut. This builds on realignments that were announced in November.
According to officials, 26 of the eliminated positions are already vacant. The Civilian Personnel Office will work to find positions for the other 27, officials said.
"The civilian workforce at Cannon is an integral part of our specialized capabilities, and we simply cannot do our nation's most important business without them," said Col Buck Elton, 27 Special Operations Wing commander.
As for overall growth, Cannon Air Force Base said it appears to be on track.
"Cannon Air Force Base continues to aggressively grow our mission and our force. Additional aircraft, personnel and hundreds of millions of dollars will come to this installation over the next several years," he said.
