GUYMON, OK -- Police in Guymon, Okla., are getting some upgrades that will help them serve and protect the community.
Through a Law Enforcement Officer Support Program, the department recently got more than 20 rifles.
And those rifles will go in every patrol car.
"In a crisis situation if it were a school shooting or a robbery or anything of that nature the luxury of time is not on our side. The first person there is obligated to deal with the situation,"said Chief Eddie Adamson, Guymon Police Department.
Chief Adamson says his officers are excited to know they will now have that extra protection with them in their patrol units.
With that, in the past, the City's Emergency Notification System was just limited to text messages and emails.
But after Guymon PD found out that many of it's citizens weren't getting them, it added voice calls, starting this year.
"As long as we keep the message short we can send out 200 messages out a minute and in a time of tornadoes, or bad weather that can mean a lot."
If you live Guymon, you can sign up for the service by calling the police department at 580-338-6525.
