AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Two people are now behind bars after eluding police through an Amarillo neighborhood Tuesday morning.
According to Amarillo Police, an off-duty officer was at the County Club Villas in the 4400 block of South Coulter at around 3:40 a.m. when he saw two people trying to break into a coin operated machine.
The officer dispatched on-duty officers. A black vehicle was seen leaving the area and officers attempted to stop it. Police said the vehicle tried to elude them in the neighborhood around Amarillo High School.
A passenger jumped out of the car and ran out on foot, police said. The vehicle continued onto Bell Street came to a stop in a parking lot at Summit Park Apartments, police added.
Tyson Sanderson, 30, the driver of the car was arrested for evading in a motor vehicle. The passenger, Amanda Roberts, 30, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and an outstanding warrant for burglary of coin-operated machine. Both list an Amarillo address and neither has been charged in connection with the original crime at 4401 Coulter.
According to police, there was evidence of coin-operated machine theft in the car.
As for the man who ran out of the car, police said they released a K-9 but the man managed to get away.
The case remains under investigation, police said.
