OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma Supreme Court says an Oklahoma County judge was correct when she threw out a state senator's lawsuit alleging the Senate's new election districts are unconstitutional.
The nine-member high court made the ruling in a unanimous decision handed down Tuesday that upheld District Judge Lisa Davis' dismissal of the lawsuit in October.
Sen. Jim Wilson of Tahlequah alleged that the Senate's new election districts violated a state constitutional requirement that consideration be given to compactness, historical precedent, economic and political interests and contiguous territories as much as possible.
But Davis ruled the issue had already been decided when the Supreme Court rejected an earlier lawsuit filed by Wilson that made similar allegations. In that decision, the high court said the Senate redistricting plan complied with the Constitution's population requirements.
