AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The high winds from the weekend created dust clouds which left piles of soil and dirt in the rural areas around Amarillo.
According to a representative of the Natural Resources Conservation Service, it is not the result of improper land management, but of the worst drought in the State of Texas. And since there is not much cover to block the wind, dust clouds are inevitable.
"It's interconnected with the winds," NRCS District Conservationist Lynn Wauer said. "Seems like we get a good moisture content in the soil and then it'll turn around and we have those winds. Those winds will pull the moisture from the soil- kind of a system going on there that works against us."
Wauer also pointed out there is little farmers and ranchers can do to prepare for drought and high winds because none of them have experienced a drought of this magnitude.
