AMARILLO, TEXAS -- West Texas A&M University Police are on the lookout for the suspect of an alleged assault that occurred on campus this past weekend.
Officials say shortly after one a.m. Sunday morning, a female student was grabbed from behind and restrained for a brief period in a parking lot area in the 2600 block of Russell Long Boulevard. Campus police say although incidents like this are few, after one, they usually increase their numbers and visibility on campus. They also offer several safety programs for students.
"We continually offer programs in residence halls, personal safety programs. They're done on request." said West Texas A&M University Police Department Chief of Police, Shawn Burns. "We also provide escort service after hours for faculty, staff and students, free of charge. We also offer the "Text-a-Tip" so folks can report suspicious behavior that they may see."
University police also conduct a quarterly crime analysis to find problems areas and discuss how to address them.
