AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A wanted fugitive was caught after leading law enforcement on a high speed chase through parts of East Amarillo Friday afternoon, Texas Department of Public Safety said.
DPS said 29-year-old George Calvin, driving a Cadillac vehicle, did not stop when authorities attempted to pull him over. The pursuit began at about 2:49 p.m. Friday near Interstate 40 and FM 2373.
Calvin was wanted out of the U.S. Marshal's Office in Arlington on weapon offenses and a violation of a protection order. He was known to have said statements indicating he did not want to go back to prison, Trooper Gabe Medrano, DPS Spokesperson said.
Authorities attempted to pull over Calvin's vehicle after running its license plates and discovering he was a fugitive. He was considered armed and dangerous, police said.
Inside his vehicle, DPS said it found a plastic gun.
A passenger of the vehicle, Natasha Hernandez, 30 of Odessa, was also arrested for warrants dealing with controlled substance, possession of marijuana and harassment.
The pursuit ended minutes later at about 2:54 p.m. at 3rd and Osage in the Budweiser parking lot, according to authorities.
DPS said police were putting out spike strips near the city limits.
According to Troopers, top speeds reached by Calvin were 80-90 mph. Calvin was arrested without any further incidents.
