AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Three men and one juvenile are now in police custody after police connected them with at least two recent robberies.
Police said they responded to the Sleep Inn motel in the 2400 block of Interstate 40 East on a report of an armed robbery on Sunday morning at about 2:06. The clerk told officers two white males came into the motel. Both were wearing ski masks and black jackets, police said.
One of the suspects was armed with a black handgun, police said. The suspect, according to police, demanded money from the clerk. After the clerk told the suspects there was no money, they left on foot.
Just an hour later, police were dispatched to the Days Inn in the 2100 block of South Coulter, also on an armed robbery call. The clerk, according to police, said two men armed with black handguns demanded money. The men were described as wearing ski masks, blue jeans and dark blue or black jackets.
An undetermined amount of money was taken from the motel, police said. The men reportedly fled driving a dar red or maroon vehicle.
Police said at about 3:20 a.m., officers spotted a red Ford Freestyle SUV traveling westbound on Amarillo Boulevard. The vehicle matched the description of the robberies.
The vehicle was stopped with four males inside. Police said two of the men were wearing clothing that matched the description of the robberies.
The four men were taken into custody as police searched the vehicle. Inside the vehicle, police said they found four air-pistol type replica handguns, a dark colored coat with "Tigger" and ski masks. The "Tigger" jacket matched the description of an earlier robbery.
Obed Vargas, 20, of Amarillo, and Joaquin Eloy Damian aka Damian Rodriguez, 21 ,of Dumas were both booked into the Potter County Jail on six charges of armed robbery. 18-year-old Gilberto Rodriguez of Dumas was booked on two charged of armed robbery.
A 15-year-old male with an Amarillo address was transported to the Youth Center of the High Plains on a charge of robbery.
