AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Customers of Atmos Energy, particularly in the Amarillo and Lubbock divisions, could be seeing an increase in their gas bills in the near future.
The actual rate you're paying for natural gas won't be increasing but instead, Atmos plans to increase the Customer Service Charge that all customers see on their bill. Atmos said the reason behind the rate increase is to allow all of their customers, in every division, to pay one fair rate for that service.
"It groups everything together, bundles everything together and then it will bring some parity and hopefully a fair price for all customers," said Director of Public Affairs for Atmos Energy, Roy Urrutia.
For Amarillo customers, that would most likely mean an additional six bucks per gas bill.
"The different rate jurisdictions, Lubbock and Amarillo customers will see a little bit more than they're paying but as a whole in West Texas it will level everything out," said Urrutia. "That's the intention."
If the proposed filing is voted through by City Commissioners, the new rates could go into effect by the end of the year.
