Update 5:40p
From TxDOT
"We will be using US 83 and SH 256 to detour traffic around the accident location. Dps made the recommendation to close the section of US 287 affected, and concur with our detour. We are currently in the process of going from emergency traffic control to more temporary traffic control. We are estimating approximately 9 pm this evening that it will be open to through traffic."

Update 5:01p
From TxDOT
"The decision has been made to allow traffic to detour at Memphis rather than Clarendon.  NB traffic will be detoured to 83 N at the intersection of US 287 and US 83 in Childress, then to SH 256 west to Memphis.  SB traffic will be detoured at Memphis onto SH 256 east to US 83 S. "

A multi-vehicle crash is causing US 287 between Childress and Clarendon to be closed Monday afternoon.

Texas Department of Public Safety said high winds created a dust storm that blocked visibility on the roadway. Involved in the crash were five semi trucks, two mid-sized cargo vans, three cars and one pickup.

DPS said four people were transported by ambulance with none of the injuries thought to be serious.

Donley County TxDOT is re-routing traffic north on State Highway 70 and Childress will route traffic north on US 83.

DPS said the closure will remain in effect until authorities can clear the roadway.
