Amarillo crime down 13% in 2011

2011 crime statistics for Amarillo are in and show a decrease of more than 13 percent.

Amarillo Police said the overall crime rate in 2011 was down 13.4 percent from 2010. The largest decrease was for burglaries, down 22.2 percent from 2010.

Homicides went up in 2011 with 11 compared to 10 in 2011.

The crime of rape went up in Amarillo with an increase of 13.2 percent.

Arson saw the biggest increase, going from 54 in 2010 to 21 in 2011.
