CLARENDON, TEXAS -- There are several programs in our schools that help students prepare for life outside of high school.

One of those is FCCLA.

Clarendon's High School recently went to a regional competition for that program and did an outstanding job.

Pronews 7 is featuring their job well done in this week's Region 16 Spotlight Education report.

"FCCLA stands for family, careers, community leaders of America," said Audra Thomas, FCCLA student.

It's a program that recently started at Clarendon High School that instills in students the value of hard work, a work ethic, and job skills outside the classroom.

"I took a leadership enhancement opportunity test over job interview skills. It basically like tests over what you need to know for a job interview, like what you need to wear, how you need to look and act," said Jerah Luna, FCCLA President.

"We had to get a business plan ready, we had to figure out what our hours would be for our store, we had to figure out what the salaries would be, and figure out a budget," said Krista Reynolds, FCCLA Vice President.

"It does prepare you for life. It helps you get a better perspective of the bigger world out there and tasks you're gonna go through in life, the hard tasks, the job, things you have to do, financial stuff," said Thomas.

Earlier this month, the group went to Lubbock to participate in a regional competition. Eight of the more than 20 students in FCCLA placed, winning a bronze medal or better and will move on to the state competition.

"I feel like proud of myself because I know I did well for it and it's a lot of hard work to be able to do it," said Thomas.

A job well done that the students and the school can be proud of.

The students will travel to Dallas April 12th through 14th for state competition.
