AMARILLO, TEXAS -- As if the plants, flowers and trees aren't enough, the Panhandle Greenhouses are "going green".
Because of the drought and water shortages this year, the greenhouses have installed a rain water storage facility where they now have the ability to catch up to 10,000 gallons of rainwater per every inch of rain. That water will in turn be used to water their plants, to help conserve. Conservation will also be one of the topics in the greenhouses upcoming seminars where they'll educate the public, free of charge, on many gardening topics.
"We want people's gardening experiences to be a pleasure and not a in Amarillo, Texas sometimes it's a little more difficult to garden so we're just trying to teach," said Owner of the Panhandle Greenhouses, James Cathey. "We've got to start conserving water plus the rain water is so much better for your plants and your landscapes than the water we're pumping out of the ground."
The first seminar will be held Saturday morning at ten at the Panhandle Greenhouses located at 11900 South Washington. For more information about upcoming seminars, check out their website.
