Have you looked outside lately? High winds and blowing dirt are causing brownout conditions across the Panhandle.

Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Department of Transportation are advising residents against entering areas of blowing dirt. That's because areas of zero visibility could be encountered.

Authorities advise drivers to stop before entering the dirt and pull off the road or turn around.

High winds, alone, can cause high-profile vehicles to lose control or tip over.

A Red-Flag Warning is currently in effect across the Panhandle. People are asked to not toss cigarettes from windows. Outdoor burning should also be avoided.

Brownout conditions have been reported on US 385 north of Hereford and on US 60 and Loop 335. At least one crash has happened. That involved a semi traveling eastbound on Interstate 40. It blocked eastbound lanes near Conway just before 2:00.

Meteorologists are expecting conditions to improve after sundown.
