SEMINOLE, Okla. (AP) - A Seminole County judge has sentenced a man to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the fatal shootings of two sheriff's deputies in 2009.
Ezekiel Holbert pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of first-degree murder as part of an agreement with prosecutors, who agreed not to seek the death penalty. First Assistant District Attorney Paul Smith said Holbert also pleaded guilty to shooting with intent to kill and feloniously pointing a firearm.
Holbert was accused of killing deputies Robbie Whitebird and Marvin Williams on July 26, 2009, as they tried to arrest him for failing to make a court appearance in a domestic violence case.
Smith says the deputies' family members approved of the plea agreement.
Holbert's attorney, Matthew Haire, didn't immediately return a message seeking comment.
