OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma Attorney General's Office says residents have until mid-September to apply for compensation from the state's $18.6 million settlement with five mortgage lenders. Oklahoma was the only state that didn't join a national settlement. Officials say they reached a separate agreement so Oklahomans would likely receive more money and get it faster.
MIAMI, Okla. (AP) - The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is probing the suspicious death of a missing man. Thirty-one-year-old Beau Pierce's body was found yesterday in Ottawa County. The Arkansas man was last seen in a Missouri casino in late January.
MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) - The city of Muskogee settled a civil rights lawsuit filed by a man who was mauled by a police dog. Terms of the agreement are sealed, although city officials say they aren't admitting any wrongdoing. Larry Chaplin sued the city, saying police used excessive force when he was arrested in 2009.
BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (AP) - A judge says the Bartlesville Police Department has to turn over a copy of a surveillance video to a local newspaper. The video showed an arrest that led to the firing of three police officers. The paper sued last month to get access to the tape, which editors said showed two officers assaulting a handcuffed man at a hospital.
