AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Despite the price of gas increasing by 17 cents this week, Amarillo still holds the title for the least expensive gas in the state.
That according to AAA Texas and its weekly retail gasoline prices survey.
Last week's gas price average for Amarillo was listed at $3.41 per gallon. This week's average is $3.58. That's an increase of about five percent, something that is perhaps slowing travel during the busy spring break travel week.
Amarillo was listed as the city with the most expensive gasoline several times last year. Already in 2012, Amarillo has had the least expensive gas numerous times.
At this time last year, AAA Texas reported Amarillo's average price for gas at $3.38 per gallon.
Texas' average jumped 11 cents to $3.70 per gallon. The most expensive gas in the state can be found in the Dallas and Fort Worth area. The metroplex is reporting an average of $3.78 per gallon.
AAA Texas said analysts are blaming higher crude prices, supply concerns and economic recovery signs for the increase in prices at the pump.
