Police seeking additional information
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Police are continuing to seek information in the hit and run crash that sent an Amarillo girl to the hospital in life-threatening condition.
Her condition has since improved, police confirmed.
10-year-old Dania Esparza was riding her bike with a friend when she was hit by a car at the intersection of East 8th Avenue and South Pittsburgh Street Monday evening, police said.
The car that struck Esparza fled the scene but was later located in an alley in North Amarillo. Police said the 2001 Pontial Grand Am was not occupied but investigators were able to recover evidence from it.
Police said the vehicle was registered locally but nothing indicates the vehicle was stolen.
No arrests have been made in the case but witnesses told police as many as three people were in the car when it left the scene.
As for Esparza, police said they are now confident about her recovery. They are no longer receiving updates on her condition.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the Traffic Investigations Unit at 378-6042 or Crime Stoppers at 374-4400.
