Thousands of local boy scouts collected more than 14,000 pounds of food for the High Plains Food Bank.
They spent the morning going door-to-door and sorting food for the "Scouting for Food" drive.
"All the food we separated out will be put into trucks and be dispersed throughout the needy," said Brandon Foglesong from Troop 62.
Summer months see the highest demand for food because kids are out of school.
"It not only teaches children, the scouts, that there are people in their community that are hungry," said Broc Carter with the High Plains Food Bank. "But it also, they're on the ground helping people their own age, because 1 in 4 children in our area are at risk of being hungry."
The food collected Saturday will help replenish their shelves after the busy holiday season.
"Its important, especially since we're reaching 71,000 people a month through our doors in our 29 counties," said Carter.
Thanks to your help in the Panhandle spirit, the scouts far surpassed their goal of 12,000 pounds and the food they collected will help provide more than 9,000 people in our community with a meal.
