Panhandle Spirit prompts donation after food bank theft

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A brazen thief earlier this week broke into the High Plains Food Bank Community Garden.

He cut the fence and ripped apart their gardening shed. Leaving behind damage and the garden without a weed wacker.

But the thief wasn't able to deter the Panhandle Spirit of giving.

Pronews 7 first reported about the incident on Wednesday, noting  the Food Bank was in need of a new weed eater, pitchforks, wheel barrows and Home Depot gift cards.

Since airing the story, an anonymous donor, brought the Food Bank a weed eater and even a tiller.

The Food Bank says the tools will come in handy in keeping their garden in mint condition. Last year, the garden that provided 16,000 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables to the Kids Cafe Program.
