Church parking lots were packed across Amarillo for Easter Sunday. And after church the parks around town got just as crowded.

"We just came out here so that all the family could get together," said Jennifer McCoy, as she was picnicking with her family. "Everybody brings plenty of food so that no one leaves hungry."

They also have a big Easter egg hunt for all the kids.

Many people gave up something for the lenten season, and Sunday, they can finally enjoy what they gave up.

"I gave up chocolate for lent," said Yesenia.

"She loves chocolate," her friend Noelia chimed in.

Yesenia will be enjoying some chocolate Sunday while having a cook-out with her family.

Father Daniel Dreher, with St. Thomas Church, gave up starches.

"I love my pastas and steaks," said Dreher. "But I love my steak with potatoes. So it was a challenge for me."

Social media was a popular lenten resolution.

"I think a lot of people with the social media have done well," said Dreher.

Dreher adds that, understandably, Facebook will probably be flooded with status updates from those who gave it up.
