The man accused of causing a disturbance on a Southwest Airlines flight last Cctober was found not guilty in Amarillo's federal courtroom Monday morning.
Judge Mary Lou Robinson rendered her verdict this morning after it was successfully argued that Ali Reza Shahsvari suffered from a form of schizophrenia and had been off his medications for months. His sister had previously stated that her brother was on his way back home to Florida for treatment.
He was found competent to stand trial in April and Judge Robinson ordered him to be evaluated to determine his sanity at the time of the incident, which led to Monday's trial.
Pronews 7 spoke with his defense attorney Jeff Blackburn this morning. He tells us this is a 3 phase process. First the competency hearing, then the trial and next will be a need to have a report on Shashvari's future mental state.
Blackburn said he expects him to return to his home in Florida in the next month or so.
