AMARILLO, TEXAS -- In the battle of the mother's who comes out on top?
Betsy Goen, a licensed professional counselor, said it really depends on the family and what they think is best.
She says it is important to make sure someone is around to instill in your children your personal beliefs and morals.
"The important thing is to find a day care, baby sitter or family member that will teach your child the values you want them to learn," said Goen.
Goen does says a parent really is best at teaching those values, but that is just not always a possibility.
"A lot of time these days the families can't afford it."
And staying home with the children is not something every parent wants, even if they do have the resources.
"If they have worked on their degree and they want to be in the work place. But, if a mother or father can stay at home and want to stay at home," she said. "That is the best for the child."
One stay at home mom admits that being at home is more exhausting than her old job, and she was in the navy.
"We are incredibly busy," said Kim Smith, her hands full with her young son. "We don't have a lot of down time. But it's a good thing. We're never bored."
Edith Welch, a working mom, agrees that staying home with the kids is exhausting.
"It is a job to take care of your children. Its a full time job," Welch said. "You don't get days off, vacation. You're 24/7. seven days a week."
the thing about having a mother stay home, says Goen, is that it's not for every family.
And that is ok she says.
It is ultimately the family's decision to figure out what works best for them and their children.
