DEAF SMITH COUNTY, TEXAS -- Fire officials are blaming a problem on a power pole for the fire that grazed about 300 acres of land Saturday afternoon.

"There was a problem on one of the power poles," Dean Turney, Hereford Fire Marshal said.

The fire, located near County Road 2 and County Road EE between Hereford and Canyon, burned a vacant home, a vacant mobile home and a barn, officials said.

Turney said the fire mostly burned in an open field. The fire was extinguished in less than four hours.

No serious injuries were reported, Turney said. A few firefighters were treated on scene for fire and heat exhaustion, Turney added.
