AMARILLO, TEXAS -- City officials said a malfunction with its tornado siren system caused two separate false alarms overnight.

The tornado sirens near the area of NE 15th and Mirror sounded at 1:19 a.m., and again at 4:45 a.m., officials said. Both instances were confirmed by police.

After inspection, city officials said there was moisture on the control board which caused it to short circuit. The problem has since been repaired and tested.

Amarillo Police dispatch said 45 calls came in during the first false alarm.
