Smoking is bad for your own health but it's even worse for your unborn child.

According to a recent study by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration, more than one in five pregnant white women smoke cigarettes. That's significantly higher than the cigarette use of their counterparts. The same reports also shows that hispanic women were much less likely to use alcohol or smoke with they were pregnant than their peers.

The agency conducted the study over a ten year period on the habits of pregnant women. It also stated the use of alcohol, tobacco and drugs while pregnant is especially risky to unborn children.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration hopes the new data will promote awareness and help lower the numbers.
