A two-year-investigation into a cocaine drug ring in Borger and Dumas has led to nine people being charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, a criminal complaint said.
The complaint, which is 21 pages, was unsealed Monday. It explicitly outlined several exchanges involving drug and firearm transactions.
The drugs and firearms were sold to undercover police officers and confidential police sources in the Borger and Dumas area, the complaint said.
Victor Manuel Chavez Jr., Carlos Martin Gonzales, Juan Eli Svenningsen, Datra Chevalier Johnson, Olen Clyde Cargill, Cosme Chavez, Sergio Ruben Ramirez, Carlos Carrasco and Jose Elias Orozco were all identified in the complaint as defendants.
All nine were charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance. The criminal complaint said all were believed to be involved in trafficking cocaine.
According to officials, prosecutors have 30 days to present the case to a grand jury.
According to the criminal complaint, the investigation started in June 2010. That's when an FBI source told a police lieutenant in Dumas that Chavez, a defendant, wanted to sell guns.
It was during the next nearly two years when it was discovered that Johnson was a major supplier of weapons. Those weapons, according to authorities, were used in drive-by shootings and home invasions in Amarillo.
