OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - AAA Oklahoma says the number of Oklahomans expected to travel during the Memorial Day holiday weekend is up over last year - although they expect to travel shorter distances and fewer will be traveling by air.

AAA spokesman Chuck Mai (MAY) says 510,000 Oklahomans will travel 50 or more miles from home - an increase of 2.2 percent from the 499,000 who made such a trip in 2011.

AAA predicts that average round trip for travelers will be 642 miles - down by 150 miles from last year - and 84,100 Oklahomans are expected to travel by airplane - a 4.7 percent drop from a year ago.

AAA's projections are based on economic forecasting and research by the Boston-based economic research and consulting firm IHS Global Insight.
