SAYRE, Okla. (AP) - A former Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper was sentenced to three years in prison after he was convicted on two felony counts involving a minor. Prosecutors say Ronald Arganbright had sexual contact with a then-15-year-old girl and sent her text messages encouraging her to run away with him. He was fired in 2011.
TULSA, Okla. (AP) - An Indian tribe that wanted to open a casino in Broken Arrow is now asking a federal judge to let them to build a sports bar and music venue instead. The Kialegee Tribal Town wants a judge to modify this month's injunction that prohibits the tribe from building on the site.
BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (AP) - The mayor of Broken Arrow stepped down this week, but is remaining on the city council. The city's vice mayor will take over until the council can elect a formal replacement for Mike Lester. He came under fire for not coming forward sooner about a small tribe's now-scuttled plans to build a casino.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Governor Mary Fallin signed dozens of bills yesterday, including a last-minute measure that boosts state money for school text books. Local school districts will now get $33 million for instructional and textbook purposes.
