CLOVIS, N.M. -- Police in Clovis are investigating the report of seven to eight shots fired late Wednesday evening.

According to police, they were called to the 1100 block of Dusk Lake on reports of shots fired from a large gun. Yelling was also reported, police said.

Upon arrival, police said neighbors were uncooperative but it was stated a male at the home was the one firing the gun in the air.

Neighbors were not willing to give statements identifying the suspect, police said.

Because a firearm was being fired, police said they surrounded the residence and attempted to contact the suspected shooter using a megaphone. Police did not receive a response.

The charge that is being investigated is a petty misdemeanor of Negligent Use of a Firearm that did not occur in a law enforcement officer's presence.

Police said they were there for about two and a half hours without seeing a suspect. Investigation continues, police said.
