CLOVIS, N.M. -- A 35-year-old Clovis man was killed after being shot in the head Wednesday evening, police said.

Additionally, police said two women were taken hostage by the suspect.

The suspect, 31-year-old Jimmy J. Reagan, was charged with an open count of murder.

Police were called just before 7 p.m. to a house on North Wheaton Road where they found 35-year-old Shondel D. Lofton shot in the head.

Witnesses told police they saw Reagan drive away after forcing two women into their van. Reagan, according to what witnesses told police, adbucted the women at gunpoint and took them hostage in their van.

New Mexico State Police found the women after a homeowner reported Reagan holding one of the women hostage at another home. He was attempting to break into a home on Rope Road, police said.

Police the homeowner fired his gun so Reagan could be distracted.

This incident remains under investigation.
