AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A tire blowout from a private plane at Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport prompted all flights to and from Amarillo to be delayed Friday morning.
According to Airport Police, the blowout happened on the runway and rolled off. Its location prevented other flights to depart or arrive at the airport.
The plane was a Piper Merdian with two passengers. Aviation Director Patt Rhodes said the plane was preparing to take off when the right main tire blew. That forced the plan to cancel take off. The plane then veered off the hard runway into a wet dirt area, Rhodes said.
Maintenence arrived at the scene to change the tire, officials said. Because of muddy conditions, the plane became stuck.
Officials said the runway was back in operation by 11 a.m.
"Everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong," Rhodes said.
No injuries were reported.
The other runway was closed due to weather conditions, Rhodes said.
