AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A 41-year-old woman was killed early Saturday morning as she was walking in west bound traffic on Amarillo Boulevard, police said.
The woman has not yet been identified, pending the notification of her next of kin.
Police said the 41-year-old woman had been struck while she was walking the left hand lane of west bound traffic in the 7800block of East Amarillo Boulevard. Police were first notified just before 1 a.m. She was struck by a 2008 Dodge Charger, police said.
The woman was taken to a local hospital where she later died from the injuries she sustained from the crash, police said.
It is not known why the woman was walking in the middle of the road in the middle of the night, police said. Additionally, police said the woman was wearing dark clothing.
Alcohol and speed, according to police, were not contributing factors in the crash for the person who struck the pedestrian. However, police said intoxicants may have been a factor for the pedestrian.
This incident remains under investigation, police said.
