SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Closing arguments are expected today in the military trial of a Texas Air Force base instructor facing the most serious charges in a widening sex scandal. Both prosecutors and the defense rested yesterday in the trial of Staff Sergeant Luis Walker. He is among 12 instructors at Lackland Air Force Base being investigated.
EL PASO, Texas (AP) - Three more people charged in a West Texas public corruption investigation have pleaded guilty. Gilbert Sanchez, Milton Duntley and Raymundo Rodriguez all pleaded guilty yesterday to various fraud charges. Investigators say the case involves contracts with now-defunct Access HealthSource in El Paso County.
DALLAS (AP) - Southwest Airlines says it expects to pay $100 million to refurbish 88 planes it will lease to Delta Air Lines. That's double the amount Southwest expected to spend on makeovers if it had kept the planes. Officials say it made sense to lease the planes because Southwest will earn more money using bigger jets in their place.
BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) - The former president of a Southeast Texas chemical plant has charged with conspiring to illegally transport hazardous material. The 13-count indictment against Matthew Bowman claims he schemed to transport the materials with false documentation and labeling. Bowman was the owner and president of the Port Arthur Chemical and Environmental Services.
