An Amarillo couple was hurt in a Friday morning accident when the motorcycle they were riding struck a barrier along Interstate 470.

Kansas Highway Patrol responded to the accident to find Brent Wayne Schmidt, 56, and Tamie Schmidt, 46, were injured in a crash about one-half mile west of SW Topeka Blvd.

State Troopers reported the crash was about one-quarter of a mile north of the South Topeka interchange on the Kansas Turnpike.

Brent Schmidt was westbound when he switched lanes to avoid a vehicle that was entering westbound I-470 from the entrance ramp of Topeka Boulevard, when he lost control of the motorcycle, striking a barrier wall.

Tamie Schmidt was a passenger on the motorcycle when the crash occurred.

The couple was wearing helmets.

The couple was taken to the Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center. Their condition is unknown at this time.
