Texans Caring for Texan's annual luncheon took place today, honoring state employees who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.

The event was created by former State Representative David Swinford, and has met yearly since 1996.

"Texans caring for Texans, that's what it's all about," said Wendi Swipe, Texans Caring for Texans task force member, "he just saw a need to recognize those people and 17 years ago he pulled in a group of people and asked them to help."

In attendance were State Representative's John Smithee, Four Price, and Warren Chisum to honor this years recipients, who were widespread among different state agencies.

"We have TxDOT, we have the Department of Public Safety, we have Child Protective Services," said Swope, "and if there are people who have gone agove and beyond they're gonna be honored."
