AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Amarillo City Commissioners met Tuesday to discuss a number of items, one of them involving the red light cameras in Amarillo. Some recent discussion involved whether or not Amarillo would be placing more of those cameras around the city or even renewing the contract for the ones in place already.
Commissioners reviewed the state law prior to Tuesday's meeting and found that they were required by law to appoint a five person citizens Advisory Committee to review the issue before moving forward.
"They will study the issue and make recommendations back to the city commission as to whether or not we can go forward with what their recommendations will be in terms of another location, same location, or whatever it might be," explained Amarillo City Commissioner Lilia Escajeda.
Tuesday, that five person committee was appointed but no dates were set as to when they will make recommendations back to the city.
Something else commissioners considered Tuesday was the proposed tax rate for the 2012-2013 fiscal year budget. They did set the maximum possible tax rate for the same as the previous year: .32009 per hundred dollar valuation.
"The budget process was long and lengthy," added Escajeda. "We went through it with a fine tooth comb, line by line, so I think we will have a good, strong budget."
