FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) - A military judge has told an appeals court he has the right to order the Fort Hood shooting suspect to be forcibly shaved before his murder trial. The appeals court has delayed Major Nidal Hasan's court-martial while it considers Hasan's objection to shaving. The Army prohibits beards but Hasan has grown one to express his Muslim faith.
HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) - A former mechanic scheduled to die this evening for murdering three teenagers at an Amarillo home in 1998 is hoping the courts will delay his execution for a third time. John Balentine contends his lawyers failed him at his trial and in his early appeals. His execution was called off in 2009 and again last year.
WINONA, Texas (AP) - An East Texas boy who disappeared during a game of hide-and-seek has been found dead. Searchers found the body of 2-year-old Jake Kimbley today in a septic tank near Winona. Investigators say the boy was playing with another child yesterday when he vanished.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - The Fort Worth Roman Catholic Diocese has settled with a man who says a now-dead priest abused him nearly 20 years ago. Terms of the settlement in the case involving Philip Magaldi haven't been disclosed. Magaldi was defrocked in 1999 and died in 2008. He was never charged.
