LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Republican Mitt Romney travel to New Mexico today to discuss what aides cast as a comprehensive energy plan. The Romney campaign says the plan would result in more than $1 trillion in revenue for federal, state and local governments, plus millions of jobs. It's Romney's first New Mexico visit of his campaign.
SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - The state Supreme Court wants the secretary of state to try to resolve a dispute over whether an Albuquerque man should run as the Independent American Party's U.S. Senate candidate. The secretary of state's office determined that Jon Ross Barrie didn't submit enough voter signatures in nominating petitions to become a candidate, but Barrie contends that some signatures were wrongly invalidated.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A federal jury has convicted a 68-year-old Albuquerque man of retaliating against two IRS workers involved in tax collections against him and his wife. John Williamson faces up to 15 years in prison and fines up to $255,000 on felony convictions. Williamson and his wife, Nancy, were indicted last year on charges they filed false liens against the IRS agent and his supervisor's homes, vehicles and personal property, claiming the IRS workers owed them almost a billion dollars.
LOS ALAMOS, N.M. (AP) - Nuclear watchdogs are questioning a proposal to ship tons of plutonium to New Mexico. The shipments would include the cores of nuclear warheads that would be dismantled at the aging and structurally questionable Los Alamos National Lab which sits atop a major earthquake fault zone. Opponents are voicing their opposition at a series of public hearings that opened this week on how best to dispose of the plutonium.
