Back to school emotions are under control

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Starting Monday  it's back to early mornings, books and scheduling as the new school year kicks off.

But what about the final hours before the first day? There is so much preparation that goes into the first day of school.

Pronews Seven spoke to students and parents to find out what they're experiencing now that the school year is here. It’s a mixture of emotions as many prepare to head back to school, from buying school supplies to picking out your outfit for the first day. What do people experience the night before the first bell rings?

Canyon High senior Mercedez Flores said, “I’ve been thinking about how to prepare myself for the first day, and what to wear, and how to act and be open. All summer I didn't really do anything, I just pushed everything last minute but now I’m ready.”

While students main worries are those of being inside the classroom, parents have a few others.

“My biggest fear is becoming overwhelmed because I have to worry about them getting their homework done. I have to get my homework done, and I still have to worry about dinner and bills,” said student and mother Summer Hanners.  

Officials say the transition back into school can be difficult for both students and parents, and suggest finding a routine.

Hanners, who is a mother and a student, agrees. “I think that it really depends on the kids because them being settled and them being alright with their routine helps us as parents be okay with the routine. It kind of sets us all in.”

Other tips experts suggest are.

1. Find support- be with people who you can relate with and talk to.

2. Keep organized- know what, and when things need to be done.

3. Manage your time- make a schedule, share it with your family, and stick to it.

4. Get ahead- use any extra time to work on assignments or run errands, this will help keep you from falling behind.

5. Walk away- if you find yourself overwhelmed, take a break. you can achieve more with a refreshed mind.
