TULSA, Okla. (AP) - A man convicted in a Tulsa murder-for-hire plot has been sentenced to life in prison. Terrico Bethel was sentenced today for the death of businessman Neal Sweeney. Last week, a jury convicted Bethel of first-degree murder. Prosecutors say Bethel was hired by Mohammed Aziz to kill Sweeney. Aziz pleaded guilty to soliciting Sweeney's murder.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - An Oklahoma State University entomologist says weather conditions across Oklahoma have provided the perfect recipe for an explosion in the cricket population. Rick Grantham says the mild winter, wet spring, and hot, dry summer allowed the insects to survive, breed and thrive.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma State Department of Health reports two additional deaths due to the West Nile Virus and 20 new cases of the disease. The department says five Oklahomans have now died as a result of the virus and 92 people have contracted the disease. Both of the latest deaths were in Carter County.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma State Department of Health says 24 hospitals are participating in a pilot program and have agreed to stop sending free formula samples home with mothers. The department says the "Ban the Bag" pilot program aims to increase breast-feeding rates in Oklahoma.
